Origin   1945     The Ionosphere Laboratory of former National Wuhan University
Amalgamation August 2000  The new Wuhan University was established by amalgamating four   universities, i.e., the former Wuhan University (WHU), Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering (WUHEE) , Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping (WTUSM), and Hubei Medical University (HMU).
Establishment January 2001 The new Electronic Information School was established by re-arranging related departments across the new campus, where the former Electronic  Information School (from WHU) ,  the Department of Control Technology and Instruments (from Analysis and Testing Center of former WHU) , the  School of Optoelectronic Engineering  (from former WTUSM) and the Department of Control Technology and Instruments (from Computer Science Department of WUHEE).
Discipline and major adjustment  December 2024   The former Department of Space Physics from the Electronic Information School at Wuhan University, along with the geophysics-related majors from the School of Geodesy and Geomatics, were merged to establish the School of Earth and Space Science and Technology at Wuhan University. Meanwhile, the original Electronic Information School was reorganised to form a new Electronic Information School, integrating the Department of Electronic Science and Technology and the Department of Information and Communication Engineering.
