Academic LectureAuthor:Administrator Source:website Time:2019-12-16 12:00:00Time:9:30 a.m Wednesday, Decembem 18, 2019 Topic: Biography: 报告人一:Prof Johannes Benedikt Deputy Director, International School of Engineering Cardiff University Johannes Benedikt received the Dipl.-Ing Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ulm, Germany in 1997 and shortly after he started with his PhD degree at Cardiff University in 1998. During his PhD project he developed a €0.5M research project with Nokia on RF power amplifiers and took on the position of senior research associate at Cardiff University starting at October 2000. He was awarded a PhD degree in 2002 and was appointed as a Lecturer in 2004 and a Senior Lecturer from May 2009. In 2009, he took on the position of a CTO at Mesuro Ltd, leading the commercial introduction of new measurement solutions that enable systematic waveform engineering at RF and microwave frequencies. His main research focus is on the development of systems for the measurement and engineering of RF current and voltage waveforms and their application in complex power amplifier designs. Jianzhong Wu is a Professor of Multi-Vector Energy Systems and Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Cardiff University. He researches on Smart Grid and energy infrastructure (modelling, analysis and optimisation of integrated smart energy supply networks). He has contributed to more than 50 EU, EPSRC and industry funded projects as a Principal Investigator or a Co-Investigator. Currently he is a Co-Director of UK Energy Research Centre, a co-Director of EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub, and a co-Principal Investigator of £24.5m WEFO funded FLEXIS project investing future integrated energy systems. He is also a co-investigator of the EPSRC project on Multi-Scale Infrastructure Systems Analytics, £36m Active Building Centre, and the Energy Revolution Consortium. He was the deputy leader of the Multi-Energy Theme of EPSRC HubNet, Principal Investigator of projects on dynamic demand funded by National Grid, and the Cardiff Principal Investigator of EU Horizon 2020 projects on “Peer to Peer Smart Energy Distribution Networks” and “MAGNITUDE”. He is a co-author of books “Smart Grid: Technology and Applications” (2012, Wiley) and “Smart Electricity Distribution Networks” (2017, CRC). He is a Subject Editor of Applied Energy (Impact Factor: 8.426) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IET Energy System Integration. He is the Director of Applied Energy UNiLAB on Synergies between Energy Networks. He is Co-Director of INCOSE UK Energy Systems Interest Group, a member of Wales Smart Energy System Group, and the Scottish Power Energy Networks Strategic Stakeholder Panel for England and Wales. Email: WuJ5@cardiff.ac.uk 报告人三:Dr Xin Yang (Chris) Associate Professor Head of International, EEE Xin Yang is an associate professor of Medical Electronics. He is heading the International Engagement of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and the Head of Cross-Cutting Research Theme of Healthy Living and Ageing in the School of Engineering, Cardiff University. He is also the Postgraduate Research Administration Tutor of the department. Xin Yang is an adjunct professor at Lanzhou Jiaotong University, China. He is the Director of Medical Ultrasound and Sensors Laboratory (MUSL) with the focus on multidisciplinary research embracing engineering, computer science, medicine and biology. He graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2005 and was awarded BEng of Biomedical Engineering, and MSc in Medical Electronics & Physics then PhD in Medical Engineering from Queen Mary, University of London and Cardiff University, respectively. His PhD project was on using Doppler ultrasound to quantify neovascularisation. Xin Yang was the CEO and CTO of Beijing BJ Device Instrumentation Ltd. between 2007 and 2009. He was a British Heart Foundation (BHF) research fellow developing Doppler ultrasound techniques for preclinical applications at the Queen's Medical Research Institute, the University of Edinburgh. He started his current position in Cardiff University since 2013 and was awarded his EPSRC First Grant in 2016 on the subject of a lab-on-a-chip for characterising and sorting cancer cells. He has been awarded a number of research grants funded by the EPSRC, the Royal Society, GCRF, and Wellcome Trust, covering the research areas of point-of-care cancer diagnostics, medical ultrasound, acoustofluidics, tumour microenvironment, and microfluidics. His current research focus is to develop and investigate acoustofluidic techniques to diagnose/treat cancers and other diseases. Yulia Hicks is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, Cardiff University which she joined in 2004. Her main research interests are in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. Since joining the School of Engineering, she led and was involved in research council and industry funded projects on modelling, recognition and characterisation of human motion, biomedical image and signal processing and statistical modelling. She successfully supervised 18 PhD students and is currently supervising further 4 PhD students. Wenlong Ming has been a Lecturer of Power Electronics at Cardiff University since August 2016. He was awarded a PhD degree from the University of Sheffield in March 2016 and was funded by EPSRC as an exchange scholar to visit the Centre for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) in Virginia Tech USA, for four months in 2012. He is the winner of the prestigious IET Control & Automation Doctoral Dissertation Prize in 2017. Since May 2019, he has also been a Visiting Senior Engineer to Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, focusing on characterisation, modelling and system integration of wide-bandgap semiconductor devices for EV and Smart Grid applications. After joining Cardiff, he has attracted more than £2m research funding and about one third of these funding is sponsored by industry partners. He has (co-)authored more than 40 papers published in leading journals or refereed IEEE conferences.
