Presentation Time:  Saturday, April 12, 2025, 9:00 AM

Venue: Conference Room 709, School of Electronics and Information Science, Wuhan University (Information Science Department, West Building)

Presentation Title:  Active Noise Control in the New Century: Past, Present, and Future?

Sepaker: Professor Shi Dongyuan

Inviter: Professor Huang Gongping

Abstract:

This lecture will begin with Elliott and Nelson's 1993 article in the Signal Processing Journal and Elliott's 1997 50th anniversary review of ANC. It will then review the development and application of ANC technology promoted by Nelson and Elliott (1991), Kuo and Morgan (1996), Hansen and Snyder (1996), and Elliott (2001). In addition, this lecture will discuss practical ANC technology developments, such as improving algorithm convergence, reducing system latency, extending control to non-stationary and/or broadband noise, the challenges of commercially transitioning from analog to digital ANC systems, and the application of the latest artificial intelligence technologies in active noise control systems.

About the presenter:

Shi Dongyuan is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Navigation, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and a recognized international talent. He received his PhD from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore in 2020 and served as a Senior Research Fellow at the National Smart Transformation Laboratory. Since 2021, he has been a Research Assistant Professor at the School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, NTU. Upon returning to China in 2024, he joined the Center for Intelligent Acoustics and Speech Communications at the School of Navigation, Northwestern Polytechnical University, where he specializes in active noise control, adaptive signal processing, high-speed digital system design, and artificial intelligence. He is currently an Associate Editor for journals such as IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications, and Computer Sciences, a Distinguished Lecturer of the Asia-Pacific Information and Signal Processing Association (APSIPA), and Chair of international acoustics associations such as ICASSP, Inter-Noise, and ICSV. To date, he has published 71 papers in international SCI journals, obtained 15 domestic and international invention patents, and presided over one project funded by the Singapore Ministry of National Development and the National Research Foundation, two key projects of the Ministry of Education, and two overseas projects with Huawei.
