Biography:
Dr. Shun-Rong Zhang is Principal Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute Technology's Haystack Observatory. He got his degrees in space physics from Peking University (B. Sc.) in 1987 and Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (PhD) in 1995. He has been a visiting scholar at ICTP and postdoc research associate at Kyoto University and Boston University before joining MIT in 2001.  His research covers a wide spectrum of geospace coupling science, with particular interests in upper atmospheric climatology, long-term changes, as well as variability and perturbation associated with geospace disturbance (space weather) and vertical coupling (terrestrial weather) processes. He uses primarily ground-based observations including incoherent scatter radars and GNSS networks as well as theoretical models. He is also engaged in collaboration with colleagues from around the world. He has authored 190+ peer-reviewed journal papers, 60 of which are first-authored.
